Choosing a Portrait Session | Spokane Family Photography

My goal with my session is for you to come away with images that encapsulates you. Your family. Your now.  All my sessions will have some element of candidness but you and I can work together to decide how much – what suits you. Some families want full on documentary styled session where nothing is staged or posed. Others want to have more control over the environment and clothing. Choosing your ideal session type depends on what you are looking for in your photographs.

Please take the time to read the descriptions and find which resonates with what you are looking for in a session right now. However, each one of my session experiences are unique, just like your family, and I’m certain we’ll be able to create images you’ll love for a lifetime.

“Margaret will give you family art, not just photos. We love our portraits – especially the perfect balance of posed shots and unposed moments (those our often our favorites). These are going to be family keepsakes forever. Thank you, Margaret.” -A.G.

 After you Book

Once you’re ready to book, we’ll get together to decide which session type suits you and your family best. We’ll pick a date and time for your session and if needed, we’ll schedule a consult as well. I’ll send a digital contract and model release for you to sign. I’ll also send your invoice, which once it’s paid will reserve your date in my calendar!

During your Session

Regardless of what type of session you book, your session will be relaxed. Don’t be afraid of “lull”s or “quiet” moments. For portrait sessions, we will do some posed images and I’ll help with posing but all my sessions focus on the moments you don’t realize even happen. My goal isn’t just making pretty pictures – it is in making photographs that you will look at 10, 20 or 30 years from now and those photographs will take you back to this moment in the image and make you remember.

Remember, kids are crazy. They tantrum, they fight, they blow snot projectiles from their noses at incredible speeds. I am used to it. So please don’t stress if they aren’t angels during the session – they don’t have to be. I’ve got two monkeys who have managed a tantrum over every thing imaginable so don’t worry or stress about it – really, I had no idea a toddler could get upset that I can’t change the color of the sky. If it is a part of your lives now and your story, then they are memories worth having. They won’t be like this forever. And someday it could be really hilarious to look back on a picture of your child having a tantrum.

After your Session

After your session, I’ll do my best to edit your images in a timely manner. Expect your gallery to be ready in 2-4 weeks. After that your session will be live for 2 weeks to allow for product purchases and downloads should your purchase digital collections. My products are printed with professional labs on archival papers; I also have an option for prints with styrene mount which is great if you don’t want to bother framing or just to add structure to the print. I do also have printing options with an eco-friendly lab that prints on cotton and eco-friendlier substrates – just ask for that printing option. I print my albums with eco-friendly album company using acid-free papers and fabric covers. They’re beautiful and meant to last a lifetime.
