Asian American experience

Asian Americans have historically been cast to the side. As I dove into the history of Asian Americans, I learned just how much history had been buried away.

A project in process that explores the histories of the Asian American.

Queen of the Pacific

Anti-Chinese riots in 1886 led to mobs in the Seattle area driving out anyone of Asian descent, primarily Chinese. In the middle of the night, thousands of townspeople gathered in the middle of the night throughout towns in the Pacific Northwest to force Chinese out of their homes and onto ships to “take them back to China”.

Intergenerational aspect of racism

The effects of racism, and perhaps more discouraging the effects of being cast as the ‘model minority’ and the discouragement around talking about these issues, become intergenerational. A good image is encouraged over the confrontation of the realities of hardships regarding racism and assimilation.
